Egg Ball

(Photo Source﹕香港小食小字典)

Last Saturday, my husband didn't go fishing so my whole family has gone for a hiking trip to the nearest trail. At first, there was windy at all in the area which we lived but when we went up to trail then start to became so windy. We have drove quite a distance from home so we just ignored the strong wind and went for the walk anyway !! It's really not my day which the wind made my head hurts but we had walked quite a long distance up to the half of the hill !!! not bad, a little exercise made me felt much better.

When we got back to the car, we all felt starving. My husband's friend had just opened a noodle restaurant so we went there to try the food. Too bad ! he was not in the restaurant. We have ordered some noodle anyway but the food quantity was too less so we all left still have a feeling of the stomach half full only. We then went for some window shopping and started thinking of eating again. So we went to a Hong Kong style cafe and found that they had my favorite snack there i.e. Egg Ball. How nice ?!! It's been so long that I haven't had that and I can now have it here in U.S. Wa Ha Ha !!! I ordered one dish although they were not as large as those I had in Hong Kong. It really tasted good ! The egg balls so soft and the side was so crispy, yummy !! When my younger just seated and said:"I wouldn't eat anything at all ! we just ate our lunch an hour ago !!!" but he ate almost two third of the dish afterwards !! If anyone live here and would like to try (around US$3 per dish "can't remember exactly how much"):

U2 Cafe

Alhambra, CA91801

As I didn't take the photo at the restaurant so I made a search and found that there is website called “掃街DIY” that has the recipe and teach you how to make them ! but there is nowhere I can find the mode to make it ! otherwise I can do it myself then it will be so great.

Thanksgiving

It's America's Thanksgiving holiday today. The pictures above are my younger son's art project and a thank you letter which his teacher asked him to write to me and my husband. My son's normally writing was scribble only but this time he write it so nicely ! He inspired me to take this chance to say thank you to all of you that spent your valuable time to look at my blog and to whom that has helped me. I would also specially thank you Karen for her patience and assistance as ever.

Happy Thanksgiving to you all !!

First time I got my citation ticket !

As I remembered when I was just arrived here, we firstly need to get a car. At that time, we didn't ask for opinion from friends and bought a black sedan then we realised how stupid we were because the summer temperature in California can go up to 100 degree Fahrenheit (38 degree Celsius). So when we were in the black sedan that really felt like we were sitting in a moving hot steaming pot that was horrible. When we were on the road, we had turned the air-conditioner to the coolest level but we still kept on sweating !!

One day, my husband taught me how to drive on a freeway. In fact, for me whenever driving on the freeway (car speed can't be less than 60 mph) had beem made nervous enough. My husband asked me have to pay attention to this and that. When he asked me to look at the backview mirror then I noticed there was a black car following us which looked like a sheriff's car. My husband told me not to panic just keeping trying as normal. After a while, I looked at my mirror again and found that the red and blue lights in the sheriff's car were flashing. Not just that, I could hear some "do" "do" sound came out from that car also. Then, I had a feeling of bad things gonna happen. The sheriff in side the car also had his finger pointing at the right side of the road. I slowly pulled my car over to the side and the sheriff car stopped and parked at far back of my car.

The Sheriff came over to my car and my husband tried to get off the car to talk to him (we normally do that in HK). But that sheriff didn't allow him to come out and asked us to remain seated inside. Then, he asked for my driver licence and the insurance card. My husband tried to open the passenger drawer to get the licence card out but that Sheriff (at his early 20 years old) became really scared and stepped back 3 steps immediately. He put his right hand on the gun pocket said:"no","no","no"!! My husband and I were so surprised how come he reacted like that ?!! We asked our friends afterwards and found that it was so easy to get a gun here in US so he was afraid that my husband was trying to pull-out a gun from the drawer that would be harmful to him. This experience was really made me sweated. At last, the Sheriff saw that my husband's hand came out with a piece of paper then he was more relaxed. He took that insurance card quickly back to his car and gave us a ticket. You may want to ask why he was giving me ticket ? It's only because of that small little sticker at the back of my car's licence plate. The Sheriff found that my car was still with that expired licence sticker on. The new sticker we didn't get it in the mail yet. In fact, there are half a year tolerance period already.

Car - Smog Test

I think it's so difficult to live here without a car because in normal case it will take at least half an hour to wait for a bus. My husband was on leave yesterday so we took the chance to take my car to have a smog test. All Cars here have to be tested once in every two years. Only those cars passed the test could renew their license (but there is some exemption allowed in case the car owner can supplied informations to prove the he/she is low-income and can only afford to buy that kind of cars). The registration licence is in a form of a small color stickers with the expiration year printed. It's normally placed on the top right corner of the licence plate (the white sticker with the month printed on is normally placed on the left of the plate, but it seldom need to be replaced). There will be different color for each year in order for police to identify the car with the licence expired. I got a bad incidence regarding this small stickers before (let me described that tomorrow).

This time, I have to take my car to the "test only" station. The test actually only took less than 10 minutes but the fee was so expensive. My US$50 then fly away !!! When I was waiting, I saw a man approached the owner of the test station with US$2 in hand. I found out he bought a broken tank which took out from a car have to be repaired. My husband said that this man spent that some amount but after he fixed it gain a much with it so he asked me not to look-down on this kind of small business !!

Post Classification

I have been using Furl and delicious to do post classification but there was a small # symbol at the end of each line which made the screen look weird. I recently met a blogger DevilR when I played Barvillage and she found a post mentioned how to remove it. I have tried that many times but it still not worked at all. After I double-checked with DevilR and found that the line (red words) should be put in the sequence as shown below.

.furlListMain ul {margin:0;padding-left:18px;}.furlLinkArchive {display:none;}
.furlAttribution {margin-top:4px;}.furlListItem {line-height:1.5em;}

So, my post classification screen look good and complete now.

Hand Made Magazine

I am so happy that I have received the stuff I asked my friend, Karen, to help in buying for me in Taiwan. This time, I have bought 2 Hand Made magazines (plus two books) and learnt that it's already passed it's 2 year anniversary. Time really fly past. I can still remember how grateful I felt when I knew there would be a quilting magazine published by Chinese people. They recently created a web page, although we can't see any projects' pictures there, we can still find some information i.e. Talk include some pictures of the projects submitted by the readers and link 2 have some web page addresses of Taiwanese quilting teachers and even Hongkongese teachers as well. If you are interest in seeing project photos of some popular quilters in Taiwan, please click link 3

There are a few projects that I really love in these two issues but this wall quilt is my favorite. I can easily find old gentlemen and lady appeared in projects here but not with this traditional chinese dress style. This wall quilt is appeared in issue #9 p.87, an article talked about "林雅櫻"teacher and her students' quilting projects exhibition (I seems can't find Miss Lin's web page address). I hope when I have my 20th wedding anniversary that I would be able to make this nice wall quilt.

Also, I found that in issue #10 p.30-31 “多米村” Quilting Classroom's teachers and students' butterfly pattern projects are so beautiful.

KaKa Craft Magazine

I recently just liked to play the mini game online almost totally forgot about quilting. I checked things up in Happy Quilting Group today and found that there would be a new craft magazine "KaKa" published on 20th in Mainland China this month that only cost RMB15 (around US$2). You can see the project photos appeared in this coming issue on the website. The hostess of Happy Quilting Group, May, has an article in this issue as well.

I went straight away to a Chinese bookstore Soyodo tried to ask them to order the magazine for me but too bad they no longer provide this kind of service that really disappointed me. Although I didn't get what I want in the first place, I got these two phone decorations at only US$0.38/one instead which in other place selling at around US$2-3. That's already worth the trip to me.
